| Description | Llewellyn tells his story of his journey into children’s nursing from leaving school at 16 and going to work on the railways to becoming a university lecturer. He talks about being one of the first Project 2000 students in Wales. He recalls working in neonatal nursing and then becoming a ward manager for children’s outpatients, then becoming a school nurse and further developing his expertise in safeguarding. He recalls the emotional toll of working in safeguarding and the responsibility of managing a complex caseload and the need for meticulous record keeping. Llewellyn talks of the importance of mentorship and advocacy and his worries about the dilution of children’s nursing education. He also talks of some of the challenges that men in children’s nursing face and the value of having men in children’s nursing as they bring a different perspective. He talks of his advocacy for people with disabilities. He talks of the importance of bringing patient experience into his teaching. |
