DescriptionLiz talks of her training and some of her memories and experiences of undertaking the combined (adult and children’s nurses) training in London and how she has remained working at that hospital for almost all of her career. She talks of the importance of communication with children and her early interest in pain management and how pain management has changed in the 26 years or so that she has been working as part of the pain team with the main shift being towards a more holistic consideration of pain. She talks if her role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with the pain service and how she has helped shape the service and how passionate she is about pain management. She talks about how there is so much learning to be done, especially in relation to chronic pain and children with special needs. She talks about undertaking her masters and how she feels hugely privileged to be working alongside world renowned clinicians and researchers. She talks about people who have influenced her. She reflects on why it is important for children and their families to be cared for by children’s nurses who have a range of knowledge and skills and who are supported to develop these as well as have the time to use these within clinical practice.
