DescriptionBertram Silverston's file of deeds and correspondence relating to the purchase of a property in Edgbaston called 'the Middlemore Homes'. There were several buildings on the site, which were altered to make a new building for the Birmingham Hebrew School (sometimes referred to in the records as St Luke's Rd School) and a Boys' and Girls' Club.

The file includes various insurance policies on the school buildings, an agreement regarding water supply to the building, 1932-1958; an Instrument of Management issued by the Minister of Education stating the rules for the government of the school, including the numbers of Foundation Managers appointed, 1951; a folder of press cuttings, some illustrated with photographs of the school from a range of newspapers including the Birmingham Gazette and the Jewish Chronicle, dating from the opening of the school in 1931 and rebuilding in 1952, with orders of service for the laying the foundation stone, 1931 and the reopening and dedication, 1952; correspondence between Bertram Silverston and Guy Heaton [sub-agent, Calthorpe Estates Company] arranging a new lease of the Middlemore Homes, 1930; various draft agreements and deeds relating to purchase of the site including a lease from the Calthorpe Estate, draft contract for sale, 1929; two abstracts of title to the Middlemore Homes, one with a map of the property, 1929; correspondence concerning insurance on the buildings, 1930-1931; correspondence between Chesshire, Gibson, and Co and Lionel Albury concerning costs of the sale, 1929; correspondence between Bertram Silverston and Guy Heaton concerning purchase of the leasehold and submitting plans for building on the site to the Calthorpe Estate, 1929-1930; correspondence between JW Levy and Essex and Goodman Surveyors and an engineering firm concerning flooding of the basement of the school, 1932.
