WVSC is a local development agency promoting effective voluntary action. It became a registered charity in 1981 and is also a company limited by guarantee independent from government. WVSC acts as a focal point for local voluntary action, provides a resource and information centre for the voluntary sector, develops new work to meet new needs and links up local agencies with similar concerns and assists in the presentation of their views to governmental and other agencies. The WVSC proposed the creation of a three-year Women's Resource and Development Officer role in 1990. This post would be involved in service delivery (providing advice, development support and information for women's groups/support services), resource allocation and employment practices and support networks and information dissemination, develop and promote forums for women on issues of common concern.
