| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overviews, newsletters, reports, copies of published material, project proposals and funding requests relating to the Oxford Development Education Centre (ODEC). Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: ODEC is a voluntary organisation that promotes positive social change through education. Development education means learning about how people are improving their quality of life, in Britain and other countries. It also means taking action - to develop local communities and support other people doing the same in their own countries. ODEC supports teachers by providing resource packs and helping with curriculum development. ODEC also carries out some youth work and community education. In 1998 ODEC, in partnership with the Federation of Community Work Training Groups (RCWTG), applied for support to allow three workers to attend the first global Regenerated Freirean Literacy through Empowering Community Techniques (REFLECT) conference. REFLECT is a radical approach to literacy and community development adapted by ODEC for anti-racist community development in Britain. Nature of support: In 1998 the Trust agreed to a single grant of £3,000 towards the costs of four people to attend the international conference on REFLECT in India. Minutes: BCT 680. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File not numbered. |
