DateJanuary 1863 - June 1895
DescriptionThe Rough Day Sales Books from 1893 onwards became the main series of day sales books and were referred to as Glass Sales Day Books found in series MS 175A/4/3/9, replacing the discontinued series. The rough day sales books make references to other types of records within the collection.

In the left hand margin of the rough day sales book two numbers appear. Using an example of a rough day sales book entry, such as an entry from December 18 1878 in volume 10 of the series, these cross references can be explained. This entry relates to St Augustine's Church in Edgbaston, Birmingham. In the left hand margin of the entry the first of the two numbers is 5.219. These numbers refer to the volume number and the page number of the glass sales ledger in which you will find the entry relating to the window mentioned in the rough day sales book. Therefore glass sales ledger volume 5 (or the sales ledger which covers the date in question), page 219 will contain the relevant entry. The second number in the margin, usually written in red ink and enclosed in a diamond refers to the relevant stained glass cost sheet. In the example being used, the number within the diamond is number 97. This means that stained glass cost sheet number 97 from 1878 will include the relevant information on this particular stained glass window. Across the bottom of the rough day sales book entry another number appears which is a cross reference to the outgoing invoice associated with the window. In the example used, the reference D and the number 398 appear. This indicates that bill book volume D, page 398 includes the relevant invoice for the window. In some rough day sales book entries, only the page number of the bill book appears, and referring to the bill book which covers the date in question will help locate the relevant invoice.
