DescriptionFrom 1590 the lords of the manor of Edgbaston leased tithes from the Dean and Chapter of Lichfield Diocese. The consequent tithe records surviving here comprise loose accounts, rough calculations, some deeds and correspondence some of which relate to commutation. They date, in the main part, from 1812 when the estates began to be developed through to 1860s. The reader should also consult items in the main correspondence series MS 2126/3/5f and be aware that tithe charges were collected as part of the wider rent collection. See the rentals at MS 2126/3/5d/8/2. Records relating to the collection of the Harborne tithes are included here as after the purchase of estates there in the 1850s they appear to have been administered together.

Further letters concerning the Corn Bill are also to be found in the main correspondence series MS 2126/3/5f.

The core of the material in this section was assembled in the Calthorpe Estate Office and was known as in Estate Box 10.
