| AdminHistory | Racism in our City was an exhibition to be shown in Peterborough. It was commissioned by the Peterborough Anne Frank Project Group.
Due to legal problems the exhibition did not happen. Vanley Burke comments: "Shortly after returning from South Africa I had the opportunity to work in Peterborough on a project with schoolchildren and photographer Nisha Kesaan. The topic was 'racism in our city'. I noticed quite a few racist graffitti around the city, so I photographed some and superimposed these graffitti alongside portraits of people I had photographed. The Project was thought to be controversial and was never exhibited".
The format of each piece is to superimpose photography of different people onto photography of racist graffitti. |
