| Description | The orders of service for funerals. They give varying amounts of information about the deceased, but often include a photograph of them and their dates of birth and death. The venue information for the service and burial, choice of hymns and biographical detail are often included. Some of Vanley Burke's own family's funeral cards are in this collection, as are some of the McCalla family's (the family were featured in the Handsworth from the Inside photograph collection) cards. Some of the cards have been annotated with bible extracts and verses, and handwritten notes for eulogies and readings. Vanley Burke's grandmother (Beulah Burke) arranged flowers for funerals and is credited in some of the cards. The collection includes first drafts of the design of some of the funeral orders of service as well the final printed version. One order of service for Metribelle Burke, 2003, has inside it an election leaflet for a Jamaica Labour Party candidate (Gerval C. Weir). |
