The Red Ditch is mentioned in the Leet of 1421 and was probably made by the Grey Friars in 1230 - 1234. It runs from the east side of Little Park Street and formerly emptied itself into the river in Gosford Street. A cavity in the ditch revealed walls two feet six inches wide, three feet deep, one foot below ground, covered by stone slabs one foot thick stone walls. |
