DescriptionPhotographed by Coventry City Council City Engineer's Department. Vessel of the fourteenth century found near the Jordan Well. Jordan Sheppey was the second mayor of Coventry in 1349, and died of the Black Plague while in office. He sunk a well in the street opposite the Gaumont Picture House, and although the street was part of Earl Street, it was renamed Jordan Well. The vessel with the six pointed pentangle stars is a Holy Water [stoup] from the Benedictine monastery, Coventry.
