| Description | This bundle contains drafts for various patent petitions and specifications, all in James Watt’s hand. There are several drafts for the "rotative" specification. This was the patent of March 1782 which covered expansive working, the double-acting engine and a rotative engine. There are also a draft for the patent covering the engine in Ireland, which Watt was awarded in June 1782, and two drafts of Watt’s patent for a smoke-consuming furnace, which he took out in 1785. For other draft petitions and specifications, see "Papers relative to the Steam Engine 1771—1795" (MS 3147/2/23). |
