TitleSteam Boats, General correspondence, 1829—1843 (223 items).
LevelSeries
Date1829—1843
DescriptionGeneral letters about steam boats from 1829 to 1843, including a few letters from Trieste-based engineer Leonard Wilkinson from 1844 and 1845. These letters were received in the Drawing Office, and are docketed by William Creighton and Gilbert Hamilton, with a few docketed by James Watt Jr. and Henry Wollaston Blake. These letters were removed from the series of General Correspondence 1829—1843, a process that was not fully completed, as some letters were found in that series which ought to have been in this bundle, for example letters from Joseph Edlmann. These letters have now been moved. The letters cover estimates for boat engines, repairs and spare parts for exisitng boats, and payment for work done. There are also letters about related topics such as dredging boats and machinery for raising boats out of the water. The bundle includes several letters from European enquirers and customers.
