Dear s Sir
my last year was the 23rd I am this day favoured with your double letter of the 20th and 21st by which I am sorry to learn that you found cause gone so much out of tune and I think any degree of previous xnas on such an occasion excusable as I know nothing is so disagreeable after a long fatiguing journey as to come into an empty house full of the smell of paint and dirty lodgers without victuals or beds it is worse than the Stratford jubilee I hope by this time you have recovered your health and your patience and that philosophy is your pilot otherwise I am sure you will have but seasick voyage I have just wrote to Mr. Wilson in answer to our I received 21 I received from him today but I am so much fatigued and exhausted with this day's miseries that I cannot get through your two letters and therefore must beg to be excused entering into their contents to next I have had six foreigners to dine with me today and our house has been like that of Babel by bad English French Italian German and bad translators so long as B&F carry on a foreign trade they must keep up their connections and pay attention to the letters of recommendation of particular houses and this has fallen to my lot almost every day for a week passed and although Mr F business at new hall is trifling yet I am obliged to go for an hour or two every day I have little comfort in this spending my time yes I am obliged to laugh to smile to be good humoured and sometimes to be damnable Mary and go to the play oh that's I was at Land's End as I have been engaged all day I could not write particulars to you caused I to copy Jones and turners letters we've the agreement wave captain say and I also send you a letter from zoom write things I shall write him an acknowledgement of his letter and perhaps to you becaused you may answer such part of his letter as requires it Remember Me kindly to Mrs Watt wishing you a long continuance of good spirits and remain dear Sir yours add much sincerely Matthew Boulton
