| Description | Letters from Thomas Handley, from 1777 to 1788. Handley was a patent attorney, based in the Rolls Building, Fetter Lane, London. He advised on and processed all of Watt’s patents, namely the copying machine (1780), the rotative patent (1781), the expansive working and double acting patent (1782), the parallel motion and steam carriage (1784) and the smoke-consuming furnace (1785). He also informed Boulton & Watt of the progress of other engine patents and finds and sends rival specifications such as Robert Cameron’s. |
