| Description | Letters from Joseph Hateley of London from 1792. Hateley, an engineer, claimed to have invented an engine that would supercede Watt’s. He offered to communicate his invention to Boulton & Watt, and said that he would offer them a share of the profits should they wish to into business with him once they had seen a model of his engine. Hateley sought a guarantee from Boulton & Watt that they would not patent his invention.
