| Description | Letters from James Watt Jr. to William Creighton, head of the Drawing Office, from January to July 1818. Letters from the second half of 1818 will be found in the next bundle. Some of the letters are also addressed simply to “Boulton Watt & Co.”, but are docketed by Creighton. Some letters are also addressed to William Bennett, one of Boulton Watt & Co.’s engineers who also assisted in the Drawing Office. The bundle also includes one letter from James Watt to Creighton, dated 31 March.
This bundle was examined and possibly re-arranged by Henry Hazleton in the 1890s, as it has a card cover in the same style as the previous four large bundles. It is unclear whether Hazleton divided the 1818 letters into two bundles, or whether he was preserving a division that had been made by Creighton. |
