| Description | Boilers and Heating Apparatus (1 item). 1334e. Radcliffe & Ross, Stockport. Aug. 1805. 1 item. Boiler and pipes for drying stove. Plan and section of the boiler, pipes, stove etc. - 2 reverse drawings on 1 sheet. The sheet bears a letter code. For Radcliffe & Ross. Cotton mill, Stockport, Cheshire. This mill originally belonged to Samuel Oldknow, who installed an 8 horse sun and planet engine in 1791; the engine house is shown in these drawings [see Portfolio 5/62]. Radcliffe & Ross took over the mill from Parker & Co. in 1802. The "drying stove" appears to have been an underfloor heating system for an entire room. |
