| Description | Engine Designs by James Watt, Edward Bull and Jonathan Hornblower’s Engines, Dutch Windmill etc. (4 items). 1339c. Miscellaneous Cornish Drawings. Circa 1782, Nov. 1785, circa 1794. 4 items. Coloured section and plan of a 64 inch double engine marked "This was intended for Poldice about '94" (this engine is of an unusual construction, with a small beam attached to the engine house wall at one end). Plan of a boiler and notes on it, marked "Exact copy of Mr. Watt's drawing for the boylers, taken from that of the General Plan of the Engine" (not dated, circa 1782). Bevel wheel for Cornish engine, 11 Nov. 1785. Unmarked drawing of a bevel wheel. Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 28. Drawings for unidentified Cornish mines. The current portfolio cover notes that these drawings originally came from a book marked "Drawings made in Cornwall" and numbered 28. John Southern did indeed open such a book, in 1782, and noted that it contained drawings for Tingtang, Scorrier, Wheal Virgin West and Fenton. In the 1890s, Henry Hazleton removed these drawings and placed them elsewhere, and numbered the remainder as Portfolio 1339. |
