Single-acting engine, with 50 inch cylinder, 7 foot stroke, chain connection, unequal beam.
Reverse general section of the engine and boiler, plans of the engine and boilers, elevation of back wall showing cross-section of boilers and chimney, front view of the air pump and framing etc.; reverse plans and sections of the engine house (these drawings were based on drawings YE to YI, drawings for the Thames & Severn Canal, 1791, originally in Book 144 [See Portfolio 5/623]); chain links, adjusting screws, catch pins, arch plates for the beam ends, beam strap ends, king post stays, martingales, piston rod cap and cross bar, bearer bars and great bars, fire door and frame, dead plate, damper plate, condenser cross bar, air pump rod cap - reverse drawings; working gear - partially coloured reverse front and side views. All the drawings bear letter codes.

For Barrow Lees & Co. Werneth Colliery, near Oldham. This was the second engine erected at Werneth Colliery, but the first actually ordered by Barrow Lees & Co. The first was an engine with a 34 inch cylinder that they bought from Joseph Crouchley of Leigh [see Portfolio 5/550].
