Reverse longitudinal section of 8 horse boiler and grate, side view of the engine, plan of the boiler, plan of the engine (4 drawings on 1 sheet, with press copy sketch of shafts and cranks etc. stuck on the back); letter from John Grieve dated Midfield, 5 Oct. 1805 with coloured plan of saw mill and requesting an estimate for the engine and an engine erector for Sir John Hope's first 6 horse engine at Cairnie Pit; letter from John Grieve dated Midfield, 12 Nov. 1805 with plan and section of the engine house, shafts etc. and requesting an engine erector for Sir John Hope's first 6 horse engine at Cairnie Pit and ordering the second. The sheet bears a letter code.

For Young & Grieve, ordered by John Grieve. Saw mill, Fisherrow, near Musselburgh, Edinburgh. Grieve was also agent for Sir John Hope, and the Catalogue of Old Engines erroneously says that he ordered this engine for Hope. The engine was sold to Armstrong & Co., timber merchants, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, in 1813.
