12 horse power independent crank engine, with 20½ inch cylinder, 3 foot stroke parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.

Reverse side view of the engine, plan of the engine and round boiler. The drawings were made in the London office and sent to Soho.

For Keen Son & Smith. Mustard and indigo mill, Garlick Hill, London. This engine replaced an 8 horse sun and planet engine which had been installed in 1799 when the firm was Sutton Keen & Smith [see Portfolio 5/180]. The firm initially ordered a 14 horse, and the first part of the List of Engines made at Soho lists the firm as having a 14 horse engine.
