TitleLists of Engine Erectors and Engines To Be Erected
LevelSeries
Date1804 - 1822
DescriptionTables noting engines which had to be erected and by who, from 1804 to 1822. These tables list the engines which Boulton Watt & Co. had sold and which then had to be put up or "erected," and the travelling engineers or "engine erectors" who went around the country putting the engines up. Each sheet contains two tables. The first table lists the engines to be erected or repaired, and in the next column who was going to do the job. Once a job had been completed it was crossed out. The second table lists the engine erectors on the left hand side, and in the columns going across the sheet are entered the engines they were due to work on, and the date they were to start the job. Erectors’ names were crossed out if they died or left Boulton Watt & Co.’s service. The later tables list the engine erectors who had gone overseas, particularly to the West Indies to work on sugar plantation engines. The final two items list the engine erectors and their "home" and "out" wages, that is the wages they received when based at Soho and the increased pay they received when going round the country.
