There were two letters with no number (now 84 and 117) and seven unnumbered enclosures (with new nos. 1,3,7,41,52,57,101).
The dates actually covered are 1813 to 1817.
The letters are numbered in red ink. The letters were tied in various small packets within the larger bundle, viz: (old nos.)
1 to 9 Letters from David Brewster; Mar. 1816 to Nov. 1817.
10 to 16 Letters from John Rennie; Apr. 1816 to Feb. 1817.
17 to 46 Letters from various; Feb 1815 to Dec. 1817.
47 to 133 Letters from various; Jan. 1816 to Dec. 1816. [Letters 105 to 133 are from
James Weston; Mar. 1816 to Dec. 1817].
134 to 138 Letters from Mr Tuffen; Jan.1816- Sep. 1817.
The letters have been rearranged into one alphabetical sequence.
There is a docket on most of the letters, written by James Watt.
