Enclosed in a portfolio of card and marbled paper.The attached label reads:
'Miscellaneos [sic] . 1818- [18]19. No. 1 to 105 '.
There was one letter with no number (now 9) and six unnumbered enclosures (with new nos. 8, 15, 39, 66, 77).
Dates actually covered are 1818 to 1819.
The letters are numbered in red ink. The letters were tied in various small packets within the larger bundle, viz: (old nos.)
1 to 13 Letters from James Weston; Feb. 1818 to Aug. 1819.
14 to 26 Letters from Dr Stanger and others about James Lawson's illness; Mar. 1816 to Apr. 1818, including 1 letter from W. Creighton,1 letter from John Rennie, 1 letter from Peter Ewart and 1 letter from James Lawson.
27 to 68 Letters from various; Feb 1818 to Dec. 1818.
69 to 105 Letters from various; Jan. 1819 to Aug. 1819.
The letters have a docket written by James Watt or James Watt jr.
The letters have been rearranged into one alphabetical sequence except for the bundle about Lawson, which has been listed separately at the end.
James Watt died at Heathfield on 19 August 1819. |
