| Description | A bundle of thirty letters to James Watt, from various correspondents. There is a small bundle wrapper on which is written, in black ink: ‘ P[or]t Glasgow and Town’s affairs, 1769 - 1773.’ ‘No. 1 to 30’ has been written in red ink, and ‘1770 - 1773 ’ written below in pencil.. The letters were numbered in red ink . They were, for the most part, arranged in chronological order. All have now been arranged in chronological order, and there is a conspectus of old and new numbers at the end of the list. The correspondent’s name and the date had been written on the letter by James Watt. Any summary in square brackets has given by the cataloguer. Most of the letters are about James Watt’s involvement in the work for building a dry dock and improvements at Port Glasgow and the mid key there. |
