| Description | A bundle of twelve letters to James Watt from William Alexander. There is no bundle label. On the outside fold of letter 1 is written in red ink: ‘ Letters of W.Alexander. 1770 to 1771’. ‘ No. 1 to 12.’ The letters were numbered in red ink in roughly chronological order, though one is not dated. They have now been arranged in chronological order and renumbered, and a conspectus of old and new numbers is given at the end of the list. The letters have a docket written by James Watt with the name of the correspondent and the date. A few have summaries, which are given below in italics. Any summary in square brackets has been given by the cataloguer. The letters are about an order for an engine at Clunie. |
