| Description | A bundle of twenty-four letters to James Watt from various people. There is no bundle wrapper. On the outside fold of the uppermost letter has been written in red ink.: ‘ Correspondence relative to the survey of the Isthmuses of Crinan and Tarbert. 1770 to 1773. No. 1 to 23.’ Twenty-three letters are numbered in red ink, one is not numbered. The letters were numbered in roughly chronological order. They have now been arranged in chronological order and a conspectus of old and new numbers is given at the end of the list. The dockets on the letters were written by James Watt, with the name of the correspondent and the date. Most letters have been given a short summary by James Watt jr. Any summary in square brackets has been given by the cataloguer. |
