| Description | Packet of twenty-five letters to James Watt, from various correspondents. These are grouped in three small packets, each of which has a bundle label, written in red ink. The letters are numbered in red ink, with individual’s letters put together, and those then put into chronological order. The packets have now been numbered with A,B,C. A) 'Letters from Mr Tho[ma]s Cochrane; Mr Watt of Greenock; Mr Gilbert Hamilton; Mr A. Anderson; Bailie Campbell; Cha[rle]s Reid. 1775 — 1777. 1 — 9.' On the outer fold of the uppermost letter the dates ‘1775 - 1786’ have been written in pencil and the last two numbers of the second date corrected with red pen to ‘77’. There are in fact 10 letters here, as one had not been numbered. B) 'Letters from Dr Blaydon [sic: should be Blagden] and Darwin. 1787 — 1789. No. 1 to 4.' C) 'Letters from Messrs. A Hamilton, Wyatt, Dalrympell, Z. Walker junr., —Birch, Henderson, J. Hurd, Brigham. 1788 — 1790. No. 1 to 10.' Ther are actually 11 letters here, as one had not been numbered.
