| Description | Bundle of thirty-four letters to James Watt from Dr William Withering.
There is a threaded bundle label with ' Dr Withering. 1780 — 1799 ' in black ink and 'No 1 to 34 ' in red ink, in a different hand.
Old No. 33 had been removed from the packet, perhaps for an exhibition, and had not been returned to the bundle. It had been numbered as JWP C1/26 when collected in 1994. It has now been replaced in this bundle.
The letters are numbered in red ink and were arranged in rough chronological order.
The bundle has been re-arranged into chronological order and renumbvered, and there is a conspectus of old and new numbers at the end of the list.
The correspondent’s name and the date has been written on most of the letters by James Watt. Very few have a summary on the docket.
