| Description | Bundle of forty-six letters to James Watt, from various people, mostly from Scotland, 1781 to 1790. There is a bundle wrapper, written in red ink, as follows: ' Miscellaneous Letters. 1781 — 1790. No. 1 to 46.' The letters are numbered in red ink. The letters were arranged in neither chronological nor alphabetical order, although in most cases some of the letters from any one individual had been grouped together. They have now been arranged in chronological order and renumbered. There is a conspectus of old and new numbers at the end of the list. The letters have a docket by James Watt with the name of the correspondent and the date, but there are no summaries. Any summary in square brackets has been provided by the cataloguer. |
