| Description | Bundle of forty-two letters to James Watt, from William and Charlotte Matthews, 1787 — 1790.
There is a bundle label, written in red ink, as follows:
'Mr Matthews' Letters. 1787 to 1790. No. 1 to 40.’
The letters are numbered in red ink except for two which have no number.
The letter numbered 1 (old no.) has '1787 to 1790' written on it in pencil
With one exception, the letters were arranged in chronological order with the most recent letter first.
They have now been placed in chronological order with the earliest letter first, and renumbered.
The letters have a docket by James Watt with the name of the correspondent and the date, but only a few have a summary.
