The letters are numbered in red ink.
The letter numbered 1 (old no.) has ‘1788 to 1790’ written on it in pencil, with a pencil tick.
The letters were arranged in approximately chronological order with the most recent letter first.
They have now been placed in chronological orderbeginning with the earliest letter, and renumbered.
There is a conspectus of old and new numbers at the end of the list.
The letters have a docket written by James Watt with the name of the correspondent and the date, and some have a very brief summary.
