There is a bundle label, written in red ink, as follows:
' Letters from Mr Rennie - Wilkinson and others to Mr Watt 1792 - 1794. No. 1 to 49.' On the reverse of the label is written : ' Letters from Mr Rennie, Wilkinson, A. Cumming, J Dearman and others, J Miller (deleted) R Walker (deleted) H Warden(deleted) J Bluton (deleted) Boulton.'
The letters are numbered in red ink.
The letter numbered 1 (old no.) has '1792 to 1794' written on it in pencil.
The letters were arranged in approximately chronological order with the most recent first.
They have now been placed in chronological order beginning with the earliest, and renumbered.
There is a conspectus of old and new numbers at the end of the list.
The letters have a docket by James Watt with the name of the correspondent and the date, and some have a very brief summary.
