Description[The engine. Chemistry. Has a prospect of a survey in Lancashire in the spring. His reaction to business: 'Upon the whole, business has not that damned serious face it used to have to me. I can stand patiently 5 or 6 hours in the bottom of a nasty canal in mud and dirt, in a december day, measuring a man's work and come home and cast up the figures at night — I can even at times assume the courage to tell a man he cheats me —But notwithstanding all this bragging I often tremble when I hear a knock at the door lest it should be some Blockhead about Business.'] (Muirhead no. 96)
