| Description | Bundle of 8 letters to Ann Watt from James Watt. 1789. This may have been an original bundle, once arranged in chronological order with the most recent letter first, as the letter now numbered as 8 was, from its colour, obviously the uppermost letter in the bundle. There is a surviving bundle wrapper with ‘Mr Watt 1789’ in the hand of Ann Watt. The letters were not numbered. The letters had no original numbers. They were numbered in pencil in 1987, 1 to 8. The letters have now been arranged in chronological order, beginning wth the earliest letter. The docket records the correspondent, ‘Mr Watt’, and date of the letter. At this period Watt was mostly in London.; Ann Watt was in Birmingham. A brief summary of the letters’ contents has been given in square brackets by the cataloguer. |
