This may have been an original bundle. There are no surviving bundle labels. The letters had no original numbers. They were numbered in pencil in 1987, 1 to 40. This numbering has been altered to reflect the fact that from the dockets, the letters had been grouped together in small packets.They had been arranged in chronological order.
This arrangement has been retained. The docket records the correspondent, 'Mr Watt', and date of the letter. At this period James Watt was mostly in London; Ann Watt was in Birmingham.
