| Description | There is no original bundle label. The letters were presumably returned to James Watt jr. after Ann Watt's death in 1832. The letters were not originally numbered, although a pencil number was added in 1987. They had been arranged in chronological order and this has been retained. The docket on most has been written by Ann Watt with the correspondent and date. The summary has been provided by the cataloguer, in square brackets. There were two incomplete letters, from Manchester, 3 October 1792 and 16 February 1793, at the end of this sequence. These have now been relocated to join the other portions of the letters found in MS 3219/2/ bundle W/ [36] and [46], being letters from Thomas & Richard Walker. James Watt died on 25 August 1819, at Heathfield, and was buried on 2 September 1819, at St Mary's, Handsworth. |
