There is a bundle label written in red ink with: 'Book of Poems presented to Gregory Watt by Thomas Campbell. 17 May 1794'. The volume by Campbell (/2) has as its title 'Poems executed at Glasgow. To Mr Greg[or]y Watt. Late Student of GREEK & MATHEMATICS At the College of GLASGOW these pieces are respectfully dedicated by Tho[ma]s Campbell. Glasgow. 17 May 1794.' The contents of Campbell's volume are listed as: 'The first of May; Translation of Aristophanes'; 'Essay on Evil'; 'Ode on the Queen of France'; 'Ode to Musick'; 'On the Glasgow Volunteers'; 'Epistle to Mr W. Irvine'. There are, in addition, a few pages in Gregory Watt’s hand, with the following titles: 'Hymn'; 'Chorus from the Jephthes of Buchanan'; 'Lines written in the Island of Mull'; 'Translation of a Dialogue of Lucian'; 'On visiting a scene in Argyleshire' [sic]; 'The Lucktree’s Petition'.
The four loose papers with this volume, have poems in Campbell's hand, the first three signed by him and titled as follows:
'The Dirge of Wallace'; 'Lines on the death of a beloved only son Translated from a Danish Inscription'; 'Ode to Winter'. The fourth paper, dated 1801, has a poem in German by M. Gleim and a translation of it into French.
