DescriptionThe drawings were originally stored in a large card and leather portfolio, on which is written 'Old prints and drawings'. When the drawings were repackaged by the Conservation team, they were divided into seven folders, and are listed here in that order.
Folder 1: Original portfolio.

Folder 2: Portrait drawing of James Watt, in charcoal and white chalk. nd. Possibly by Gregory Watt.
Another possible artist is the portrait sculptor Catherine Andras (1775-1860) for whom Watt sat in London in 1810. She specialised in wax profiles.

Folder 3: Ink drawings of flower designs etc. possibly for embroidery. nd. (34 items)
Four of the drawings have a heading: 'Apron. Miss McGregor '; 'Apron. Mrs Stevenson'; 'Gown '; 'Sprigs London'.

Folder 4: Architectural drawings. (16 items)

- Ink and wash drawings of classical heads etc. such as Seneca, Sophocles, Shakespeare etc. 1790. Six are numbered and signed by Jessy Watt (nos. 2,4,5,13,15,35); seven are signed by Gregory Watt. There are in some cases portraits of the same person by both Jessy and Gregory. Ten not attributed.

- Ink and wash drawings, two signed by Jessy Watt. 1790. (4 items)
- Drawings of hands etc. signed by James Miller jr. (James Watt's grandson) nd. [before 1815 when he died]. (5 items)

There is an original label which reads: 'Small drawings by members of the family. Copies of trees.'
