My dear Friend
As I presume I shall not escape many days without the favor of a blank Income tax Schedule, to be filled up in some shape, I wish to prepare myself for that difficulty and first & foremost must consult you upon it. I do so chiefly on account of your original advice that I kept my means to myself, and this I have done. Mr. Watt has directed me to purchase two interpretations of the Act for the "business," & then for the benefit of the colony. From there I don't find that in fact there is any way of keeping the secret from the curious; but should there be (& you would wish it) I know it would give you but little trouble to make me acquainted with the form.
As to the Dividends on the 3½ pr Cents I presume that it is not necessary that a return should be made by any party (or if . . . [The copy is incomplete.]
