For information on the partnership of Boulton & Smiths, commonly known as the Latchet Company, see the introduction to MS 3782/5/ Records of Other Firms. The file of papers and correspondence listed here relate to the partnership, the latchet works at Soho Manufactory and the dissolution of the old partnership.
Many of the documents listed here are undated. In the original list prepared by the Assay Office many of them are dated as [?1801] and for the present this has been retained, though the evidence for the dating is unclear and the contents of some of the documents suggest that they may in fact be a year or two later.
