| Description | (This item is a hardback notebook. The majority of the book remains unused but pages of notes have been made at either end of the book. At the beginning there are notes on subjects such as, 'Observations on the Barometer at Derby & Buxton 1759.' and 'An experiment made by MB and Doctor S. upon steam.' At the end of the book there is a page of accounts as well as several pages of notes with directions for making a variety of things, such as 'To make Phosphorous.', 'To make fine red sealing wax' and 'To write in a secret manner.' There are also various diagrams in the notebook, such as one for 'a screw to regulate or adjust ye length of the lever.' Enclosed within the book are two items; a sample of gold leaf and a small feather.) |
