TitleLetter. Thomas Wedgwood (Etruria) to Matthew Boulton (Soho).
LevelItem
Date24 December 1792
Description(The bottom half of the letter—i.e. the portion concerning the engine—was deliberately cut away, and is now in the Boulton & Watt Collection.)

Dear Sir,
My father is just gone from home for a day or two, but desired me to tell you that the mode you proposed paying the money is perfectly agreable to him, say, £3000 in a bill payable on the 20th of July. £1000, payable the 20th Feby. & £1000 payable 20th March.
[My father was mistaken or calculated wrong respecting the power of the engine. He thought Mr Spodes engine had been calculated equal to 3 horses only and therefore when he said 6 horses, he meant an engine of double the power of Spodes which it seems must be 10 horses—he therefore wishes it to be so.
I beg my best respects to Mr M Boulton & am, Dear Sir,
Your obt hbl Servant
Thos Wedgwood]
PS. I am now treasurer of the Staffordshire Bowmen Society & shall remit you a bill for the buttons in a day or two.
