Description(Directed to Mons. Delessert, rue Coqheron.)
Dear Father,
Inclosed herein you will receive a letter from Mr. Bourdon containing a list of books which he thinks most proper for my instruction.
My bed is removed into his cabinet, in spite of all my remonstrances to the contrary, for tho’ I am warmer and free of smoke, yet the thougts of putting this family to so great an inconvenience as must necessary follow from depriving them of this room, make me equally as uncomfortable as the smoaky chamber. I shall not say any more at present to Mr. Bourdon, but leave it till I have the pleasure of seeing [you] at Versailles.
I began yesterday to do something towards learning French, but I cannot say to work nor has he yet settled any plan to begin upon; but I shall endeavour to be able to give you a better account when we meet. I have made a memorandum of a few English books, &c., which I should be glad if you would send me when you return home.
The weather here is grown much milder and the frost is groing apace. I hope neither you nor your companions suffer’d any material injury from your cold ride to Paris. I remain, dear father, your dutiful son,
Mattw. R. Boulton
