| Description | (Dated Sunday morning.) Dear Friend, I have spent so much time the last week from my business that I cannot without great inconvenience gratify myself with the pleasure of living with you this afternoon. God bless and preserve you. I am ever your grateful and affectionate, S. Garbett Enclosed is an impressed copy of a letter brought by this morning's post from Mr. Gibbons of Bristol. The original I am sending to Lord Hawkesbury with copy of the letter from Hall, Robinson, & Co. of Hull; and I acquaint him that Mr. Legge has been so good as to permit his steward to go to Liverpool-tho' from the intelligence we receive from that place it don't appear probable he can obtain wheat, but we find there is some Indian corn and are in hopes he may secure 400 quarters of it; that we have given him a credit for 2000£ and, besides the Indian corn, we have authorised him to buy wheat at a price not exceeding 13 shillings per bushell weighing 70 lb. I have not time to send Mr. Legge copy of Mr. Gibbons's letter, who please to observe underlines the words no aid sent us by Government. [Edited transcript.] |
