| Description | Sir, As I can better address myself to you in writing than in conversing, I am induced to take the liberty of offering the following to your consideration. My apprenticeship has been elaps'd the 12th instant two years, during which time I have ruminated the satisfaction I hope to receive in the settling of my account, which I shou'd esteem a particular favour if you would be so kind to do, when an opportunity occurs. I spoke to you on this head last Christmas, when you was pleased to intimate to me that I might take what money I might want; in consequence I have taken the liberty to receive (as specified on the other side), which hath barely defray'd the necessitous expences I have been at for near these two years. From your known generosity, I flatter myself you will give me a salary equal to my deserts. I hope you are convinced of the attachment I have to your interest, &c., which I shall at all times be ready to promote to the utmost of my abilities. I remain sincerely and with the greatest respect, sir, your much obliged and most obedient humble servant, John Hodges Received at sundry times from the 12th January 1775 to 31st December 1775: £42.
