DescriptionDear Sir,
I received your kind letter yesterday at Croydon, and upon my arrival here this morning I understand Mr. Brown is gone to Birmingham, and I hope arrived in time for you.
I shall be quite happy to see you at Croydon Lodge, but I have quitted London, being discarded from my occupation here. It has hurt me much, God knows, but one must reconcile oneself to all manner of changes in this world. It wou’d have hurt me more, had any one but Mosley succeeded me, but I believe him to be so honest and good that I am consoled by that thought. I hope to God Mr. M. will find benefit from the Bath waters.
I shall be rejoiced to see Mr. Watt and you at Croydon, and have left word with Nanney to take care of you when you arrive. You say nothing about your son and daughter; I therefore trust they are well, and beg my kind love to them and compliments to all friends, and, heartily wishing you health and happiness for many years to come, I remain, dear sir, your obliged and affectionate friend,
C. Matthews
