DescriptionDear Sir,
Yesterday I saw Mrs. James, your housekeeper that is to be, and she says she hopes it will be no inconvenience to wait ten days for her, as Mrs. Warren wishes her to stay and arrange all matters with her new housekeeper; and I ventured to say that it would make very little difference to you. In my conversation with her I mentioned nothing about wine, nor did she require any, so that whatever you may allow her in that will exceed her expectations. She wished to know whether you would write to Mrs. Warren for her character, and I told her I supposed you would consider it more genteel to call on Mrs. Warren when you came to town, and in the interim you was perfectly satisfied with my assurance that Mrs. Warren recommended her very strongly. I shall give Mrs. James a letter to either yourself or Miss Boulton, that you may not be alarmed at the appearance of a stranger.
Having wrote you so recently, this is all that occurs at present; and, with kind love to Miss Boulton (whose knee I hope is nearly recover'd) and your son, I remain, dear sir, affectionately yours,
C. Matthews
Mrs. Vere desires her love.
