DescriptionMy dear Sir,
I have this instant your kind, tho' short, intimation of a visit to me, which I am rejoiced to learn; but I believe it will not prevent my visiting Soho or Heathfield first, for, as I only proposed staying three days, we can return all together. I have two reasons for not putting my journey off, one of which I will reserve till I have the pleasure of seeing you; the other is that I hate to make a promise to a young person without fullfilling it, and as we were prepared to set off to morrow at five o'clock and all packed, I think the disappointment will be too great; but the more substantial reason I reserve to tell you.
I am easy, have arranged all matters for this very short absence from hence, and it will be only my pocket a little lighten'd with the journey, which I do not put into competition with the other considerations that weigh for taking it. Therefore do not be angry if for once I come against your inclination; but from what has passed between Mr. Watt and me I presume he will expect me at Heathfield; but in all places and all occasions you will find me faithfully and affectionately yours,
C. Matthews
Your bed here is thoroughly aired and every thing shall be ready for you on Sunday or Monday evening and I will join your party here.
